I photographed Sarah and her extended family last month out at Folly. When Sarah, who handcrafts fanciful, customized wedding cake toppers, contacted me, I checked out her blog and saw that the bar was set high. They’ve been shot by some awesome photographers!

Hopefully I did their wonderful family justice. I know I had fun.

I met the Thompson family on Memorial Day at Folly Beach.  They were a super laid-back crowd. I really enjoyed meeting their mother, who introduced herself as the family matriarch and told me that her four children now lived in four different time zones. She had great stories about her kids in their younger days. Honestly, that’s one of my favorite parts about doing extended family shoots. I generally have one person who kind of briefs me about everyone else; their relationships, the last time they saw each other, whether they fought when they were little kids, what their talents were, where they went to college, etc.  It’s fun to get somebackground info. 🙂

I love this one. It says Folly to me. Someone in a pretty dress, someone flying through the air, and someone drinking a beer.

Tammy and all the women in her family meet up once a year for a no boys, no kids allowed vacation. Spending a mere hour or so with them, I could see their collective bond, and their loving, vivacious, goofy zest for life.

The wind was a bit of a problem, but it did create some adorable candids.

Shawn is the cousin of a church friend of mine, and she and her ridiculously adorable and happy family made the trip from Kentucky to spend a few days relaxing at the beach this summer.

Finn’s family came to Folly Beach for vacation this summer.  He’s ridiculously cute, and he owned his photo shoot. His mother told me she wanted vintage modern photojournalism, and I can see why. Finn has a dapper sort of look that really lends itself to that style.

And shortly thereafter, little guy indicated that it was a wrap. 🙂

This is Jane. She’s my sweet newly 6 year old daughter, and she’s outstanding in the field. (Sorry, can’t resist occasional bad puns.)

She’s been my main muse for so long that she really knows how to work the camera, if she’s in the mood to listen, that is, so we wrapped this session in less than 15 minutes.

Rock on, baby girl!

Susannah and Gardner are two of the sweetest, most low-key, and did I mention gorgeous?   people you’d ever want to meet.

Susannah scheduled their engagement session back in sweater season, so it was fun to finally get a chance to meet them and shoot the beachy, summery, laid-back engagement photos they wanted.

They’ll be getting married next summer in their home state of Maine, on an island off the coast. Sounds storybook!

I suggested that they bring along a football, kite, book, whatever activity they liked to do together so we could capture some candid lifestyle moments. Susannah volunteered Beau, their Wheaton terrier puppy, who was the perfect accessory.

Then we headed over to Dunleavy’s for a sunset beer. I’m a big fan or changing locations during a shoot when possible. It’s like having multiple photo sessions in one.

Beer!

Stick!
