Jodi and Justin’s wedding was magical for me because there were so many scenes that I felt like could have been captured in any age at all.
It had this old world understated elegance that I just loved.
And they’re such a great couple. Justin has this fabulous sardonic wit that I just love and appreciate, and not only is Jodi breathtakingly beautiful, but she’s definitely an individual. A quiet, sweet, meditating, cat-loving social worker who-surprise!-loves ambient trance techno music so much that they planned their honeymoon around a Vegas trance concert.
Justin carved and burned the chuppah by hand. I love the way they incorporated the Lowcountry element of palmetto roses and spanish moss.
I don’t normally get nervous while I’m shooting, but I was stressed out about getting the glass shot, especially since I don’t use motion-freezing flash during ceremonies. I was so happy to see flying bits of glass when I was reviewing the files!

Lately, I’ve been deliberately practicing the arts of Leaving the Camera at Home and Putting the Camera Away. It’s easy to see life as one long series of fascinating moments, but the problem is if you’re always anticipating, with a viewfinder in front of your face, you can become a little removed from participating in your own story as it unfolds.
Or something like that.
But the pendulum’s sort of swung the other way, and the busier I get, business-wise, the more I forget to document my own family, like, ever, which isn’t good either.
So I’m going to try to return to blogging personal photos once a week, when I can remember to do so. People tell me that the little one in particular is a big hit. The world is her stage right now, and she knows it.
Taking a break from watching the teenage guy mow our lawn to show off an owie and receive appropriate sympathy
I can get great shots of other children rolling around in the grass, but this is right before they bailed on me because it was Itchy.
And because Cool Dude came home and said it was time to hit the pool

Susannah and Gardner are two of the sweetest, most low-key, and did I mention gorgeous? people you’d ever want to meet.
Susannah scheduled their engagement session back in sweater season, so it was fun to finally get a chance to meet them and shoot the beachy, summery, laid-back engagement photos they wanted.
They’ll be getting married next summer in their home state of Maine, on an island off the coast. Sounds storybook!
I suggested that they bring along a football, kite, book, whatever activity they liked to do together so we could capture some candid lifestyle moments. Susannah volunteered Beau, their Wheaton terrier puppy, who was the perfect accessory.
Then we headed over to Dunleavy’s for a sunset beer. I’m a big fan or changing locations during a shoot when possible. It’s like having multiple photo sessions in one.
Beer!
Popcorn!
Stick!
